Q&A with Jasmine

  • How did your GYLC experience influence your future?

The skills gained from GYLC has proven and driven me towards my interest in Law, as well as influenced me to a stronger interest towards traveling.

  • Tell us about your Global Young Leaders Conference?

GYLC was exhilarating because everyday I learnt new skills such as interaction with the real world, resolution writing, debating, public speaking, communication and most importantly – time management. My life changing moments certainly include the opportunities I got being the lead speaker when carrying out mini debates in country groups. Representing France, I learnt that being part of ‘The United Nations Security Council’ involved thinking critically about certain decisions. Using the ‘Power of the Veto’ during one of the debates regarding the invasion and division between Greek and Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus and observing other country reactions was also a life-changing event.

  • What was the most important thing that you learned at GYLC?

Being motivated by my rewarding summer in Washington DC, New York and Los Angeles, I am proud to say that I am now an independent individual with increased confidence. I am able to analyze and tackle tasks wherever I am. I am able to communicate in an easier manner and can find the best way to solve problems directed to me. GYLC enabled me to be more open-minded and consider different perspectives when communicating to peers. It taught me that you must analyze situations clearly before summing up to reactive conclusions.

  • What would you tell other students who are interested in attending GYLC?

Go for it! GYLC will be an unforgettable experience. Being across the world is one thing, but meeting people from over 20 countries is another. Today, I have friends from Germany, China, Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia, America, South Africa, England, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Ghana, Argentina and many more!
