NYLF Law & CSI may be the single most valuable opportunity you receive as a high school student. Through hands-on experiences in crime scene investigation, evidence analysis and courtroom or forensic simulations, you will go beyond the classroom and gain the edge you need for college and a future career in law or crime scene investigation.

At NYLF Law & CSI, you’ll explore in-depth the entire judicial process, from the discovery of a crime, through collecting and analyzing all of the critical evidence, to preparing for the courtroom process and taking part in the criminal trial.

You'll investigate a crime scene, examine a Supreme Court case, or assume the role of a justice or attorney to argue your position or render a decision.

In addition, a behind-the-scenes college experience at George Mason University will give you new insights into the university admissions process and campus life, including an admissions workshop and a campus tour.

  • Is National Youth Leadership Forum: Law & CSI for me?
This program is for you if you are a high school student during the 2015-2016 academic year and you are ready to prepare for an exciting career in law or crime scene investigation. Many of our students are nominated by educators, leaders from youth organizations and participating institutions, but open enrollments are welcome from qualified high school students who want to make the most of this opportunity.
  • What is included in tuition?

Your tuition includes all curriculum and instruction, program activities, site visits, and events, overnight housing, program materials, at least two meals a day, a Certificate of Completion, and local transportation during the program.

Transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition. While attending the program, you will only need money for snacks, souvenirs, and other incidentals.

  • How will I be supervised?

Your safety and well-being during the program is our highest priority. The program is structured so that you will reside in a safe, controlled environment. You will be closely supervised by professionally trained staff, including advisors who serve as educational facilitators and chaperones, security personnel, operations personnel and a program lead.

For nearly 30 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Maintaining an overall student-to-staff ratio of 17-to-1.
    • Attendance is taken throughout the program, and students are required to attend all program activities.
    • Checking rooms nightly and working with hotel security for any after-hours concerns.
    • Staff member rooms are interspersed among student rooms on each hallway in residential housing.
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices.
  • Where will I stay?

For the summer 2016 NYLF Law & CSI program, all students are housed at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA. Some activities will take place at the Marriott, and some will take place on the campus of nearby George Mason University.

  • How many students share a room?

Each room will house three students. You will have your own bed, which may be a roll-away. Your room will include fresh linens and towels (but extra blankets and towels are recommended). The bathroom is shared.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program, so your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you. However, it is perfectly fine for your family to travel with you to the program location and stay in the area while you are attending the program.

  • Can I attend if I am a student with special needs?

Yes. If you are a student with special needs or with disabilities, we encourage you to enroll. We may be able to provide you with auxiliary aids and services to assist you. Please call our Office of Admissions for more information or to discuss your particular needs prior to enrolling in the program.

  • Do I need to make my own flight arrangements?

Yes. Your tuition does not include transportation to and from Boston, MA. We recommend that you make necessary flight arrangements only AFTER you receive confirmation that you are officially enrolled.

  • What is the pre-conference assignment, FUEL?

The first step of your leadership journey includes assessing your strengths and opportunities for growth. To aid in this assessment, you must complete a brief pre-program assignment entitled Feedback for Understanding Emerging Leaders (FUEL).

The FUEL assignment will be available on your personal web page after you enroll. It simply requires that you choose five mentors – teachers, coaches, youth group leaders or other trusted adults – to complete a short survey about your leadership strengths. You also will complete a short self-assessment as part of the FUEL assignment.

  • Can special dietary needs be met?

At NYLF Law & CSI, we make every effort to meet the dietary needs of all our students. When you complete the Student Information Form, you will have the opportunity to make special dietary requests.
