About National Youth Leadership Forum: Law & CSI

Investigate Your Future

High School Summer Law and CSI Program Students

Are you ready to explore the exciting fields of law and CSI while you gain the skills and experience you need to plan your future?

NYLF Law & CSI may be the single most valuable opportunity you receive as a high school student. Through hands-on evidence analysis and courtroom or forensic simulations, you will gain the edge you need for college and a future career in law or crime scene investigation.

You will choose to participate in either a legal or CSI track during the program, which will allow you to explore the world of law and crime scene investigation in a way that goes far beyond the classroom. At NYLF Law & CSI, you will cover the entire judicial process in-depth; from the discovery of a crime, through collecting and analyzing all of the evidence, to preparing for the courtroom process, and taking part in the criminal trial.

As a student focusing on law, you will visit a local courthouse where you will observe proceedings and perform a mock trial. You'll also receive an introduction to the law school trajectory from law school professionals and discover the specialty career paths available in this exciting field.

As a student pursuing CSI, you will attend an interactive panel with university professors and forensic scientists, who will discuss the latest high-tech applications used during criminal investigations, and discover the career paths that may shape your future.

In addition, you'll visit George Mason University for a behind-the-scenes college experience, including an admissions workshop and a campus tour, which will give you new insight into the university admissions process and campus life.

Students attending select high school and college programs are eligible to receive college credit(s) through George Mason University.

  • Is National Youth Leadership Forum: Law & CSI for me?

This summer program is for you if you're a high school student during the 2022-2023 academic year who's ready to prepare for an exciting career in law or crime scene investigation. Most of our students are either nominated by educators or selected through our academic partnerships. However, we also accept students through our application process. If you haven't been nominated or selected but are interested in taking advantage of the life-changing opportunities that the program provides, we encourage you to submit an application today.

  • What is included in tuition?

Your tuition includes all curriculum and instruction, program activities, site visits and events, overnight housing, program materials, at least two meals a day, a Certificate of Completion, and local transportation during the program.

Transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition. While attending the program, you'll need money for meals not provided, snacks, souvenirs, and other incidentals.

  • How will I be supervised?

Your safety and well-being during the program is our highest priority. The program is structured so that you will reside in a safe, controlled environment. You will be closely supervised by professionally trained staff, including advisors who serve as educational facilitators and chaperones, security personnel, operations personnel, and a program lead.

For over 35 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Greeting students at the designated airport upon their arrival, providing shuttle service directly to the program site, and providing shuttle service back to the airport on Departure Day*
    • Maintaining an overall student-to-staff ratio of 17 to 1
    • Attendance is taken throughout the program, and students are required to attend all program activities
    • Checking rooms nightly and working with hotel security for any after-hours concerns
    • Staff member rooms are interspersed among student rooms on each hallway in residential housing
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices

*There is an $100 nonrefundable round-trip fee for shuttle service or a $50 fee for one-way shuttle service.

  • Where will I stay?

For the summer 2023 NYLF Law & CSI program, all students are housed at the Westfields Marriott Hotel in Chantilly, VA. All activities will take place at the Marriott, except the one-day outings to George Mason University and Washington, D.C.

  • How many students share a room?

Each room will house two to three students. You will have your own bed. Each room has two stationary beds and one roll-away bed. You'll be asked to rotate between the roll-away and stationary beds while at the program, since the bedding is changed daily. Your room will include fresh linens and towels (but extra blankets and towels are recommended). The bathroom is shared.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program, so your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you. However, they and your other family members are welcome to enroll in the NYLF Law & CSI Family Program.

Available during all sessions, this program allows attendees to enjoy a unique D.C. experience while preparing for your college transition. Family program attendees will also join NYLF Law & CSI scholars for select portions of the program, including a speaking event, a simulation, and more.

  • I am a student requiring specific accommodations. Can I still attend?

Yes, we encourage you to enroll. Envision by WorldStrides believes in working with families to accommodate student needs and encourages the participation of students who feel prepared to meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional demands of the program environment. We may be able to provide appropriate auxiliary staff and services to assist students as needed if notified in advance. We encourage families, guardians, legal representatives, or educators to contact the Office of Admissions for more information and to discuss particular accommodations before applying for enrollment in the program.

  • Do I need to make my own flight arrangements?

Yes. Your tuition does not include transportation to and from Washington, D.C. We recommend that you make necessary flight arrangements only AFTER you receive confirmation that you are officially enrolled.

  • What are the pre-program assignments? Do I have to do them?

The first step of your leadership journey includes assessing your strengths and opportunities for growth. As part of your program, you'll have access to WorldStrides' newest digital platform: MyActionPath.

WorldStrides has partnered with PAIRIN, a leader in career and life planning and assessment, to help our students along their lifetime learning journeys. The result of this partnership is MyActionPath—a personalized, virtual GPS that guides you along your desired career pathway and helps you identify ways to enhance your skills and achieve your goals. MyActionPath can assist you in deciding which professional field might suit you best, makes recommendations based on your goals and dreams, and provides you with educational and supportive resources. Before you arrive to your program location, you'll receive more information via email on how to begin this exciting career-planning journey.
