Colonel Michael Peffers speaks to select sessions of NYLF National Security, sharing his 30 years of defense and intelligence expertise with future national security leaders.

Colonel Michael J. Peffers, a highly decorated military officer with 30 years of service, has served in a variety of command and staff positions in the United States and around the world. He served many of his early years in engineer units in Europe and the United States before deploying to the Middle East to serve in a variety of command posts. Colonel Peffers currently serves as the Military Executive and Senior Military Representative of the Analysis and Production Directorate at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.

Military Experience

In 2003, Colonel Peffers deployed with 10th Special Forces Group for Operation Iraqi Freedomand was selected to be the Chief of Staff of the forward staging base for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – North. He then served as the Information Management Officer in United States Special Operations Command. From 2004 to 2005, Colonel Peffers served as the Command Engineer for the Special Operations Command Central and was responsible for all Special Operations engineer effors to al U.S. Special Forces in theater.

In 2008, Colonel Peffers was assigned to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). While at NGA, he has served as a Staff Officer, Branch Chief of the Combat Operations Support Team, Expeditionary Operations Division Chief, and the Military Executive for the Analysis and Production (P) Directorate. He also deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan to lead a 700+-person Joint Intelligence Community organization providing information technology, communications, and first-phase intelligence analysis support to U.S. and Coalition forces. He has worked and traveled in Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America.

Education and Awards

Colonel Peffers received a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States. Military Academy..He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.

Colonel Peffers’ awards and decorations include the the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab.
