Make Your Creative Mark on the World

NYLF Digital Media, Film & Journalism is a fantastic experience in the digital arts for high school students who are interested in stretching themselves creatively as film-makers, journalists, editors, and more.

Spend seven days in New York City developing the skills and knowledge you need to lead in a multimedia, digital world. NYLF Digital Media, Film & Journalism features workshops and simulations that give you hands-on experience in digital production, journalism, film editing, and audio and video broadcasts. 

In partnership with the New York Film Academy, NYLF Digital Media, Film & Journalism can give you a head start on your career in the field of broadcasting and media production!

Visit the New York Film Academy to participate in valuable workshops in a variety of media fields, from writing to editing to camera work.

Take part in a simulation to create, produce, edit, and publish a multimedia piece suitable for broadcast.

Journalist for a Day
Start building your digital portfolio at NYLF Digital Media, Film & Journalism. You will practice real-world journalism skills, including editing, reporting, source analysis, and graphic layout to produce your own digital publication. You’ll also explore digital-age reporting: blogging, podcasts and virtual media. LEARN MORE
Lights, Camera, Action!
Shoot and edit a short film or broadcast news segment at the New York Film Academy, taking on roles in front of and behind the camera and learning the arts of directing, staging, videography, reporting, and post-production. LEARN MORE

  • Is the National Youth Leadership Forum: Media Arts - Advertising, Film & Journalism for me?

    This summer digital media program is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring various careers involving the broadcast of video and audio, digital production, journalism, film editing and more. NYLF Media Arts is your springboard to achieving tremendous success in college and in a future digital media career. 

    To attend NYLF Media Arts, you must be in grades 9-11 during the 2017-2018 school year. Many of our students are nominated by educators, leaders from youth organizations and participating institutions, but open enrollments are welcome from qualified high school students who want to make the most of this opportunity.

  • What is included in tuition?

    Your tuition for NYLF Media Arts includes housing, an average of two meals a day, supervisory personnel, program materials, all program activities, site visits, a Certificate of Completion and local transportation during the program.

    However, your transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition. While attending the program, you will only need money for off-campus meals, souvenirs, snacks and other incidentals.

  • How will I be supervised?

    Your safety and well-being during the program is our highest priority. The program is structured so that you will reside in a safe, controlled environment. You will be closely supervised by professionally trained staff, including advisors who serve as educational facilitators and chaperones, security personnel, the scholar experience team, and program leads.

    For nearly 30 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Greeting students at the designated airport upon their arrival and providing shuttle service directly to the program site, as well as providing shuttle service back to the airport on departure day*
    • Maintaining a student-to-staff ratio of 17-to-1
    • Providing single-sex rooms and single-sex floors
    • Requiring all students to attend all activities
    • Checking rooms nightly and ensuring that students remain in their rooms
    • Having night monitors in place to support students who may become ill or who have an emergency during the night
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices

    * There is a $70 nonrefundable roundtrip fee for shuttle service or a $35 fee for one-way shuttle service.

  • Where will I stay?

    For the summer 2018 NYLF Media Arts program, you will reside on the campus of St. John's University in New York City. 

  • How many students share a room?

    Each room is a suite style, housing two students to a room, and shares a bathroom with another room. You will have your own bed.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

    No. Your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you during the program. Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program. However, it is perfectly fine for your family to travel with you to the program location and stay in the area while you are attending the program.

  • Can I attend if I am a student with special needs?

    Yes. If you are a student with special needs or with disabilities, we encourage you to enroll. We may be able to provide you with auxiliary aids and services to assist you. Please call our Office of Admissions for more information or to discuss your particular needs prior to enrolling in the program.

  • Can special dietary needs be met?

    We make every effort to meet the dietary needs of all our students, provided the request is submitted prior to the start of the conference.  When you complete the Student Information Form, you will have the opportunity to make special dietary requests.
