The CIA Culinary Experience provides a special opportunity for high school students to have the collegiate experience at The Culinary Institute of America and gain important skills to prepare for a number of future career paths in the diverse culinary field. Whether you dream of being an accomplished chef or simply want to see the different ways you can succeed in the world of food, this program will help you on the way to accomplishing your goals.

In the CIA’s kitchens, you’ll learn and practice key culinary skills in cooking, baking, and pastry arts while exploring the Mediterranean diet and cuisine. During the CIA Culinary Experience, you’ll also have access to both alumni and current students who will share their experiences and courses of study, to give you a complete picture of life as a CIA student.

You'll leave the program with new friendships, inspirational memories, and industry knowledge that will help guide you along your chosen professional path.

The CIA Culinary Experience FAQs

  • Is The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Culinary Experience, Powered by Envision for me?

    The six-day CIA Culinary Experience is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring the various career options available to you in the culinary field. This program is your springboard to narrowing your focus and achieving success, both in college and your future career.

    To attend the CIA Culinary Experience, you must be in grades 9-12 during the 2025-2026 school year.

  • What is included in tuition?

    Your tuition for the CIA Culinary Experience includes all meals, supervisory personnel, program materials, a chef jacket and toque blanche, all program activities, a Certificate of Achievement, and a CIA-branded program completion gift. Your transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition.

  • How will I be supervised?

    As an attendee of the CIA Culinary Experience, you're expected to take this opportunity seriously and to follow all directions given by Envision operations personnel as well as the faculty and students you’ll be working with and learning from at the CIA.

    For 40 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Greeting students at the designated airport upon their arrival, providing shuttle service directly to the program site, and providing shuttle service back to the airport on Departure Day*
    • Maintaining a student-to-staff ratio of 20 to 1
    • Requiring all students to attend all activities
    • Checking rooms nightly and ensuring that students remain in their rooms
    • Having night monitors in place to support students who may become ill or who have an emergency during the night
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices

    *There is an additional fee for shuttle service.

  • Where does the program take place?

    The CIA Culinary Experience is a residential summer program with activities at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Students will reside at a nearby hotel during the program.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

    No. Your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you during the program. Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program. However, it is perfectly fine for your family to travel with you to the program location and stay in the area while you are attending the program.

  • I am a student requiring specific accommodations. Can I still attend?

    Yes, we encourage you to enroll. Envision by WorldStrides believes in working with families to accommodate student needs and encourages the participation of students who feel prepared to meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional demands of the program environment. We may be able to provide appropriate auxiliary staff and services to assist students as needed if notified in advance. We encourage families, guardians, legal representatives, or educators to contact the Office of Admissions for more information and to discuss particular accommodations before applying for enrollment in the program.

  • What is the code of conduct for this program?

    Attending the CIA Culinary Experience is fun, but it is also a privilege. Like all meaningful experiences, you only get out what you put into your time spent at this exciting forum. You are expected to conduct yourself as a mature and responsible person, as you represent your school and community. You must abide by the Participant Code of Conduct. You must also abide by and uphold all conference rules.

  • Can special dietary needs be met?

    Vegetarian options are always available. Vegan, kosher, and halal meals can be made available to you, provided your request is submitted prior to the start of the program. When you complete the Student Information Form, you will have the opportunity to make special dietary requests, including any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

  • How many students share a room?

    Each room will house two students. You will have your own bed and share the bathroom. Your room will include fresh linens and towels.

  • Do I need to make my own flight arrangements?

    Yes. Your tuition does not include transportation to and from your home and the program location. We recommend that you make necessary flight arrangements only AFTER you receive confirmation that you are officially enrolled.
