Biography

Major General Hyman was born in Long Branch, New Jersey. Upon graduation from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Honors and as a Distinguished Military Graduate, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry and awarded a B.A. in History. He was selected to be a career military intelligence officer upon the founding of the Army’s Intelligence Branch. Major General Hyman also holds an M.A. in The History of Ideas from The Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Military Art and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and has completed post-graduate studies at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

His military education includes not only the Command and General Staff College, but completion of the Basic and Advanced Courses at the Military Intelligence School, the U.S. Army Language School, and The National War College. He has held a wide variety of important command and staff positions culminating in his assignment prior to his retirement as Deputy Director for Attachés and Operations of the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Prior to that, Major General Hyman was Commanding General of the Intelligence and Security Command, the Army’s major intelligence command. Other key assignments included Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence at Headquarters, Department of the Army; Commander, 500 Military Intelligence Group in Japan; Politico-Military Planner for the Latin American Region in the Plans and Policy Directorate in the Pentagon’s Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and Commander of the 165th Military Intelligence Battalion in Frankfurt, Germany.

Besides Europe and Japan, Major General Hyman has served overseas in intelligence assignments in Latin America and Vietnam. Awards and decorations which Major General Hyman has received include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the U.S. Army Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (with three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters).

Major General Hyman has proudly been associated with NYLF National Security since its inception and currently serves as a member of its Board of Advisors.
