While the season of gift giving comes to a close, it’s a firm belief at Envision that education is the gift that continues giving long after wrapping paper is discarded and batteries have run out. So, we had Envision team members who sent their children to an Envision program in 2018, worked at one of the programs, or attended a program in their past tell us what impact they witnessed.
How did you feel the first time you sent your child to an Envision program or attended a program?
We were a little nervous about how difficult it would be to keep up with the program, but Johanna did great! - Envision Game & Technology Academy Alumna Parent, Bonnie
Meeting so many new people from around the country. I was a big fish in a small pond in my hometown - when I went to NYLC, I met a lot of other big fishes from small ponds. It pushed me to do and try more, and made me realize that I wanted to go away for college, rather than going to the same college as a bunch of my high school friends. - Envision Employee and NYLC Alumna, Amanda
What was your favorite thing you saw about their experience after they came home?
Our daughter gained so much confidence and felt accepted by the rest of the group. It was great for her to see something she is passionate about - art and video game design, shown as a serious and viable career path. She gained a new appreciation and passion for her interests. - Bonnie
She is a typical hard to please teenager. She loved everything about the program. The people she met, the program, meeting Anthony Robles, the group projects, etc. - JrNYLC Alumna Parent, George
I had more confidence to venture outside my comfort zone and challenge myself. I was more open to new ideas, places and people. - Amanda
What was your child's favorite part of their Envision experience?
She loved meeting new people from all across the country. - George
Staying at the dorm by herself! - Bonnie
Anything else you’d like to add?
Johanna is a pretty "outside the box" kid and it was so great to see her find a group she fit in with and see that there are other kids out there doing the same things she likes to do and discovering what they can do with their talents and interests. She enjoyed the independence and freedom of the experience most of all. - Bonnie
My daughter Rachel really enjoyed the opportunity to work with children in a more structured way as opposed to a traditional summer camp where she had worked before. It was great for her to see the impact that Envision programs have and the role of experiential learning can play in teaching kids skills as well as learning more about what they like to do. It was great for her to get a better sense of what I do and why I was so excited to take the role at Envision. - Envision Employee & Parent of NYLF Pathways to STEM Advisor, Lauren
She enjoyed it so much she turned down one of her other favorite camps for 2019 to go to JrNYLC Alumni in Boston. - George
