        4 Cool Summer Science Projects

        Make your summer break meaningful by trying your hand at these fun DIY’s! Starting your own environmentally friendly project is not only educational, it helps to keep your mind fresh and can spark great ideas to use toward your next project in school. Take a look at some of these sustainable and creative science projects

        Use the sun to power your cell phone. In five simple steps, you can build your very own solar powered cell phone charger. This is a great introduction to the use of solar panels and their rolein conserving household energy. Also, this project gives you a perfect excuse to head outside and spend some time in the sunshine!

        Grow organic produce in your own backyard. Think about it: growing a sustainable garden can reduce fossil fuels (used to travel to the grocery store), guarantee fresh ingredients on your plate,provide a natural habitat for birds and insects, and lessen your environmental footprint. Do your research to figure out what compost, mulch, or insect plots will be best suited to your environment. Hint: worm farms make awesomecompost!

        Make a home water filtration system. This DIY can be built in less than two hours and costs less than your average home filtration system. Provide your family with drinking water in case of anemergency and have some fun rolling up your sleeves and putting this together!

        Collect rainwater and minimize costs. This is a summer project that could take a little more time and effort. However, building your own rainwater collection system can harvest hundreds ofgallons of water that go to waste every time the weather turns. Stored rainwater is perfect for watering plants, washing your car, or cleaning outdoorfurniture.
