Envision and Discovery Education Announce Multi-Year Educational Partnership to Amplify the Voice of Students in 2016 Presidential Election Process

Chase the Race in School to Advance Envision’s Mission of Facilitating Conversations around Civics and the Election Process among Today’s Youth

February 22, 2016

Washington D.C. Envision, a leading experiential education organization, and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, announced a multi-year educational partnership that will provide students and educators with tools to engage, captivate and energize the youth voice on the importance of democracy and civic engagement throughout this year’s Presidential election, leading up to the 2017 inauguration. This program, Chase the Race in School, complements Chase the Race 2016 – Envision’s program that will give 12 high school students across the United States the opportunity to play an active role in the election process by serving as onsite reporters at a number of key political events.

Through this partnership, Discovery Education will amplify Chase the Race by helping Envision extend the discussion into classrooms nationwide. Chase the Race in School will leverage Discovery Education’s expertise in developing classroom activities that inform students – and future voters – of the election process in engaging ways, and will provide educators with free, supplemental activities and interactive content. These activities will be accompanied by four video vignettes featuring Chase the Race reporters.

Key components of the partnership include:

  • An all-new program, http://www.ChasetheRaceinSchool.com, that will house all program assets, including Chase the Race classroom activities and interactive content, made available exclusively to educators
  • A series of video vignettes created by Discovery Education and hosted by Chase the Race 2016 reporters that will provide students and educators with a unique perspective on how the U.S. election process works and complements the Chase the Race in School classroom activities
  • An interactive, in-person event in January 2017, hosted by Discovery Education at Envision’s Presidential Inauguration Leadership Summit, held in Washington, DC and featuring a panel discussion from Chase the Race journalists and a keynote from Malala Yousafzai
  • A virtual, livestreamed “Town Hall” event hosted by Discovery Education during the Summit
  • The use of Discovery Education curriculum to enhance Envision’s respected career exploration programs, particularly in the STEM fields

“Partnering with Envision was a natural fit because of its focus on the importance of civic engagement and the emphasis on the youth voice in the election process,” said Lori McFarling, Senior Vice President, Discovery Education. “The Chase the Race 2016 reporters will have the unique role of serving as conduits between the candidates and America’s youth, and will make sure that topics impacting the next generation are part of the campaign. The engaging digital content available through this program will be invaluable to educators looking to teach the election cycle and founding principles of American government.”

“Through our Chase the Race program and 2017 Presidential Inaugural Leadership Summit, students will receive a behind-the-scenes look at the United States’ democratic process, and through their voices and commentary they have the potential to energize an entire new generation of voters,” said Envision CEO Duncan Young. “We are thrilled that by partnering with Discovery Education, we are expanding access to the content our Chase the Race reporters produce to millions of their peers across the country.”
