General Keith B. Alexander, USA (Ret.)

Keynote Speaker, NYLF National Security

Director, National Security Agency,
Chief, Central Security Service, 2005-2014
Commander, U.S. Cyber Command, 2010 to 2014

A four-star Army general and the highest-ranked military official of U.S. Cyber Command, the National Security Agency and the Central Security Service, General Keith B. Alexander has played a pivotal role in securing our safety at home and abroad for the past decade.

Considered by many as one of the most strategic thinkers in recent U.S. history in the intelligence arena and widely recognized as an indomitable force in the domain of cyberspace, General Keith Alexander has served over the past decade as commander of the U.S. Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), chief of the Central Security Service (CSS) and is the longest-serving director of the National Security Agency (NSA).

A four-star Army general, Alexander became head of the NSA and CSS in 2005, a pivotal time period for American security due to the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and the increased threat of cyber-attacks. While in office, his efforts resulted in some of the most forward-thinking measures related to the production and management of signals intelligence and information assurance for the U.S. government.

When the perils of cyber war reached critical mass in 2010 and the vulnerability of an increasingly networked world became more apparent, Alexander was inaugurated under President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates as first commander of USCYBERCOM, a military institution integral to the nation’s security and prosperity.

As Opening Keynote speaker, Alexander, a visionary commended for his steadfast leadership, will share his personal career journey, providing leadership advice and career guidance with NYLF National Security students.
