NYLF Medicine Curriculum
Students gain real-world insight into the life of a medical practitioner during interactive, true-to-life simulations and clinical workshops. Together with their peers, your nominees will take on various roles to better understand the challenges faced by medical professionals and gain knowledge about various career options within the field of medicine.
Outdoor Medicine Simulation: When Care Is Hours Away
This realistic simulation teaches and allows students to practice potentially life-saving medical techniques as well as how to make important emergency care items out of common hiking materials in the improvisation station.
Triage Simulation: When Disaster Strikes
In this simulation, your nominees will respond to a disaster as a medical professional, assess and sort victims based on the severity of their injuries, and practice applying their medical knowledge in high-pressure environments.
Engaging Seminars and Keynotes
During keynotes and panel discussions, students learn from a variety of medical experts with diverse backgrounds, including surgeons, physician assistants, nurses, biomedical engineers, and epidemiologists, as they share their perspectives and provide insight into their professional experiences and career paths.
Site Visits: Medical Schools and Simulation Centers
Previous NYLF Medicine attendees visited a top medical school where they toured the facility and explored the latest training tools and techniques. They also visited a local medical simulation center, where they toured the facility, met and interacted with health care providers, explored new training tools and techniques, observed proper patient care, and participated in hands-on activities where they applied their clinical skills and knowledge.
Real-Life Medical Operation
Students watch a real-life medical operation video during which a physician talks through the procedure and answers questions.
Clinical Skills Rotations
Past NYLF Medicine attendees got hands-on experience in clinical workshops using the same tools and techniques as medical professionals, had the opportunity to study the basic procedures associated with the neurological exam, and practiced their newly acquired skills with their peers.
