Each year, the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) conducts America’s Mock Election, the largest, student-only, online mock election in the nation; using electronic ballots tailored to each student’s home legislative district. Teachers sign up with YLI for their students to participate in the classroom.
Students vote using an electronic ballot and select the President, Governor, and both houses of the US Congress based on their state. This year, America’s Mock Election will be held during the weeks of October 17-27, culminating in a nationwide television broadcast to deliver voting results.
This mock election not only takes the youth pulse of the nation, it also provides incredible free resources to educators interested in bringing the election to life within their classroom. Support materials available from YLI include teacher lesson plans, customizable ballots, and free online election resources such as posters, decorations and stickers. These resources help educators generate election excitement at their school, all while exposing their students to civic participation.
If this wasn’t enough, a full news show will cover the returns of the youth vote, replete with journalists and expert opinion on this historic election. Learn more at http://www.americasmockelection.org/ so that you can bring the youth perspective right into your classroom this November.
