Exercise 3
Making the Tough Choices
Age Group: High School
In this exercise, students will be presented with a difficult scenario, and will be required to make a tough decision regarding the best course of action.
As the facilitator, you will divide the class into three groups and assign each to one of the three decision-making scenarios. You can use the sample
scenarios provided in our free download, or devise your own.
Each group then chooses a leader, who will help guide them to their decision. No “hung juries” are acceptable – the group must make a decision, within the allotted time-frame. After the group has reached a consensus, the leader chooses a spokesperson from the group. Each spokesperson presents his/her group’s decision to the class, and explains how and why they came to their decision. The teacher can allow for as much class discussion as desired regarding each decision.
In these scenarios, there are no good answers and there are no wrong answers.
For your convenience, we've created a free downloadable version of the activity guidelines, for you to print out.

This exercise is part of our series of leadership activity ideas. As the series progresses we’ll share activities for all age groups. Please check back for the next installment, coming soon.
