Teacher Appreciation Week isn't just for teachers! It’s a great time to reach out and thank a motivational coach or supportive tutor. As much as your teacher guides you in school, these valuable mentors push you to excel in your extra-curricular activities. Give these unsung heroes the recognition they deserve and include them in your Appreciation Week festivities! Here’s how:
Potluck Team Dinner – A home-cooked meal is always a hit. Find out what your coach’s favorite dishes are, get with the team, then get in the kitchen! After practice, have your teammates bring a small dish and set up your “family” style meal in the stadium, on the bleachers, or if you’re especially close, at your home.
Tickets to a Concert or Show – After spending long hours helping you perfect your Bach concerto, thank your piano tutor by giving them the opportunity to relax and simply observe the music for a change – with a ticket to a local concert! There are plenty of inexpensive entertainment options, check your local coffeehouses and restaurants to see what bands or artists are coming to the area.
Team Poster – Whether you’re on the basketball team, in drama club, or part of the Mathletes, a huge poster of your entire “roster” will make a touching and thoughtful gift. Make sure to get everyone to sign their photos, then add your personalized message on the back including your best memory from the year.
Skill Development Clinic – They help you tackle your best moves on the field, but maybe there is a particular area of expertise they would like to refine. With a little help from your parents and team, send your favorite coach to a Coaches Clinic in the area to learn from experienced professionals - maybe they will return with something new and exciting to teach you!
However you decide to show your appreciation, remember that mentors take their personal time outside of school to contribute to your success. So, put some thought into your “thank you”, and make it meaningful!
