Have you heard of Digital Learning Day? It’s a yearly event created to celebrate and encourage greater use of technology in our schools. Digital Learning Day for 2014, on February 5, brings together those who support and share innovative ways to use technology in the classroom.
For a new generation of students who have grown up – from day one – with technology, digital educational experiences are an important learning option. Digital tools can provide a more engaging and personalized experience, which today’s students prefer. And many studies show that digital learning tools develop critical thinking skills, improve self-confidence and prepare students for careers in the digital workplaces of the 21st century.
But there is still work to be done to make schools and educators more digital-savvy, according to a recent PBS LearningMedia survey of pre-K through 12 teachers. More than two-thirds of teachers expressed a desire for more classroom technology.
“Technology is a critical part of learning and teaching in today’s classrooms,” commented Alicia Levi, of PBS Education. “Teachers today need access to high-quality digital content to keep pace with schools’ investment in interactive whiteboards, tablets and other devices to maximize the educational benefits of technology in classrooms.”
