Students interested in health care, medical science and/or emergency response can learn more about these career options over a long weekend at The George Washington University Careers in Health Care, an Envision FutureFinder Program. Through state-of-the-art hands-on experiences over three full days* on campus, students will see firsthand what it’s like to work as a nurse, paramedic, health scientist, and more. Among like-minded high school students, program attendees will have the opportunity to learn from the distinguished faculty in both the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at The George Washington University as well as interact with current GW students in those programs.

Where will your future lead? At GW Careers in Health Care, you can decide. Learning from the distinguished faculty at The George Washington University’s School of Nursing and School of Medicine and Health Sciences, you’ll take a tour of various health care professions – including nursing, first response, health and wellness, and more – to determine if your future is in health care. 

Get the ultimate hands-on experience in GW’s state-of-the-art labs while participating in true-to-life trauma, infection control, birthing, and other intense simulations as you’re also receiving answers to your biggest questions about careers in the health care field. When you leave this immersive three-day program, you’ll take with you a Career Action Plan that will help guide you along your chosen professional path. Whether you’re certain about a nursing, first responder, or health sciences career, or you’re not at all certain about which you want to pursue, this sampling will allow you to explore each role and decide what’s best for your future.

  • Is The George Washington University (GW) Careers in Health Care, an Envision FutureFinder Program for me?

    This three-day program is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring the various career options available to you in health care. The George Washington University Careers in Health Care, an Envision FutureFinder Program is your springboard to narrowing your focus and achieving success, both in college and your future career.

    To attend GW Careers in Health Care, you must be in grades 9-12 during the 2018-2019 school year.

  • What is included in tuition?

    Your tuition for GW Careers in Health Care includes all on-site meals, supervisory personnel, program materials, all program activities, and a Certificate of Completion. Your transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition.

  • How will I be supervised?

    GW Careers in Health Care is run similar to a college course. As an attendee, you are expected to take this opportunity seriously and to follow all directions given by Envision operations personnel as well as the faculty and students you’ll be working with and learning from at GW.

    For over 30 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Maintaining a student-to-staff ratio of 17 to 1
    • Requiring all students to attend all activities
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices
  • Where does the program take place?

    GW Careers in Health Care is a day-program held at The George Washington University Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn. Students should plan to arrive on campus at 9 am and leave at 4 pm. Drop-off and pick-up windows are from 8:30-9 am and from 4-4:30 pm.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

    No. Your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you during the program. Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program. However, it is perfectly fine for your family to travel with you to the program location and stay in the area while you are attending the program.

  • Can I attend if I am a student with special needs?

    Yes. If you are a student with special needs or with disabilities, we encourage you to enroll. We may be able to provide you with auxiliary aids and services to assist you. Please call our Office of Admissions for more information or to discuss your particular needs prior to enrolling in the program.

  • What is the code of conduct for this program?

    Attending GW Careers in Health Care is fun, but it is also a privilege. Like all meaningful experiences, you only get out what you put into your time spent at this exciting program. You are expected to conduct yourself as a mature and responsible person, as you represent your school and community. You must abide by the Student Code of Conduct and uphold all program rules.

  • Can special dietary needs be met?

    Vegetarian options are always available. Kosher and Halal meals can be made available to you, provided your request is submitted prior to the start of the program. When you complete the Student Information Form, you will have the opportunity to make special dietary requests.
