The CIA Culinary Academy provides a special opportunity for high school students to have the collegiate experience at The Culinary Institute of America and gain important skills to prepare for a number of future career paths in the diverse culinary field. Whether you dream of being an accomplished chef or simply want to see the different ways you can succeed in the world of food, this program will help you on the way to accomplishing your goals.

In the CIA’s kitchens, you’ll learn and practice key culinary skills in cooking, baking, and pastry arts while exploring the Mediterranean diet and cuisine. Outside of the kitchen, you’ll cover key principles related to business management, sustainable farming, and more. During the CIA Culinary Academy, you’ll also have access to both alumni and current students who will share their experiences and courses of study, to give you a complete picture of life as a CIA student.

Additionally, you'll explore the local culture and sample the cuisine of major foodie destinations—San Francisco or San Antonio. You'll leave the program with new friendships, inspirational memories, and industry knowledge that will help guide you along your chosen professional path.

  • Is The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) Culinary Academy, Powered by Envision for me?

    The seven-day CIA Culinary Academy is for you if you are a high school student interested in exploring the various career options available to you in the culinary field. This program is your springboard to narrowing your focus and achieving success, both in college and your future career.

    To attend the CIA Culinary Academy, you must be in grades 9-12 during the 2021-2022 school year.

  • What is included in tuition?

    Your tuition for the CIA Culinary Academy includes all on-site meals, supervisory personnel, program materials, two chef coats, one toque, all program activities, a Certificate of Completion, and the program graduation gift of a student cutlery set. Your transportation to and from home and the program location is NOT included in tuition.

  • How will I be supervised?

    As an attendee of the CIA Culinary Academy, you're expected to take this opportunity seriously and to follow all directions given by Envision operations personnel as well as the faculty and students you’ll be working with and learning from at the CIA.

    For over 30 years, Envision has achieved a stellar record of safely and successfully enriching the lives of students, providing them with superb educational experiences and professional supervision. Other Envision safety measures include:

    • Maintaining a student-to-staff ratio of 17 to 1
    • Requiring all students to attend all activities
    • Equipping all staff members with two-way communication devices
  • Where does the program take place?

    The CIA Culinary Academy is a residential summer program with activities at The Culinary Institute of America at Copia in Napa, California and the CIA campus in San Antonio, Texas. Students will reside at a nearby hotel during the program.

  • Can my parents attend the program?

    No. Your parents or guardians are not allowed to accompany you during the program. Gaining independence, including experiencing new things on your own, is an essential part of your growth during the program. However, it is perfectly fine for your family to travel with you to the program location and stay in the area while you are attending the program.

  • I am a student requiring specific accommodations. Can I still attend?

    Yes, we encourage you to enroll. Envision by WorldStrides believes in working with families to accommodate student needs and encourages the participation of students who feel prepared to meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional demands of the program environment. We may be able to provide appropriate auxiliary staff and services to assist students as needed if notified in advance. We encourage families, guardians, legal representatives, or educators to contact the Office of Admissions for more information and to discuss particular accommodations before applying for enrollment in the program.

  • What is the code of conduct for this program?

    Attending the CIA Culinary Academy is fun, but it is also a privilege. Like all meaningful experiences, you only get out what you put into your time spent at this exciting forum. You are expected to conduct yourself as a mature and responsible person, as you represent your school and community. You must abide by the Student Code of Conduct. You must also abide by and uphold all conference rules.

  • Can special dietary needs be met?

    Vegetarian options are always available. Vegan, kosher, and halal meals can be made available to you, provided your request is submitted prior to the start of the program. When you complete the Student Information Form, you will have the opportunity to make special dietary requests, including any food allergies or dietary restrictions.

  • How many students share a room?

    Each room will house two students. You will have your own bed and share the bathroom. Your room will include fresh linens and towels.

  • Do I need to make my own flight arrangements?

    Yes. Your tuition does not include transportation to and from your home and the program location. We recommend that you make necessary flight arrangements only AFTER you receive confirmation that you are officially enrolled.
